Recognition of Fulford Heath member
Ina Murphy a long standing member and previous Ladies Captain at Fulford Heath Golf Club is due to be presented with The Sir Henry Cotton Award in May at the BMW Championships at Wentworth G.C. This Golf Foundation top National Award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated meritorious service to junior golf for a sustained period.
Speaking at the presentation last year Colin Montgomerie said: “All European Tour players need a start as a youngster and we are all thankful to a friendly PGA professional, a kindly club member or one of the family who gave their time to encourage us to play. The award winners here today are great examples of this breed of people. Their efforts will help discover future Open Champions, Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup players, but also the many more young people who just love the game, and that’s a fantastic achievement.
Ina was nominated for this award by her club, in recognition for her years of dedication given to encouraging juniors within her own club, Fulford Heath, or with the Worcestershire and Herefordshire Ladies County Golf Association. Along with Mary Bancroft and Elizabeth Freeman Ina has also helped the Professionals at Fulford develop a flourishing junior section.
